PaleoTechnology has developed a strategy we call Value Chain Biochemistry. In any resource extraction process, the greatest creation of value arises when multiple products can be developed from an initial commodity. This is what happens when crude petroleum is processed in a refinery, giving rise to many different products. Value Chain Biochemistry guides us through the process of developing and commercializing integrated steps that create further value, drawing from chemical and genetic engineering, natural chemical and biotic diversity, and nanotechnology.
For example, starting with low-quality asphaltene-containing petroleum, the isolation and development of novel chemicals could potentially increase the market value of this petroleum by a factor of 10 or 100. Developing technology based on the potential microbial composition of the petroleum and the ecosystem from which it is extracted could add another 10X or 100X of extracted value. Through use of the PaleoTechnology proprietary GSET solvent technology, further uses can be created for a material destined to become asphalt.
